Primary Bedroom Makeover

Happy Sunday!

I hope you are all enjoying your weekend. Unfortunately, I’m working this Sunday… So while you’re reading this scheduled post, I’m probably reviewing doctors’ notes and preparing to see my patients for their occupational therapy sessions (If you haven’t read my About page yet, I’m an occupational therapist at a skilled nursing facility).

To be honest, I’ve been a little overwhelmed with life recently… work, housework, errands, projects, blog/Instagram, social life, everything. I’m still trying to figure out how to balance everything without letting one area of my life get neglected. So this Saturday, I chugged some coffee and got to work so that I could finally check “bedroom makeover” off our to-do list and move on to other things.

As you may have seen from my wood panel wall post, this was our primary bedroom before the makeover. There was nothing really wrong with it, but it felt bland and lacked character. Because this is another main area for us to unwind and relax at home, I wanted it to be a space that I LOVE.

BEFORE

I created a design board using Powerpoint. I planned to paint the wall and replace the headboard, nightstands, and lamps.

My design board

I started off by painting the wall using Behr Coney Island and adding some wood panels. Click here for details on how I put together this wood panel accent wall.

Our wood panel wall, my favorite project so far!

Next, I purchased a new set of lamps on sale from TJ Maxx and two new dressers from Amazon to use as nightstands. I chose this 3 drawer dresser by Little Seeds. I hoped that the light/medium color of the dressers would pop against the wall and brighten up the room, and they did not disappoint! I also wanted to use large dressers rather than typical smaller nightstands so they would look more proportional next to our king bed.

Here’s a photo of the new dresser on the left and our old nightstand on the right. The new dresser just fits so well in this space! I love the color, size, and trim details; however, I did not like the silver hardware that it came with so I replaced them with some black drawer pulls from Amazon.

NEW dresser vs OLD nightstand

After setting up the new dressers/nightstands and new lamps, I started working on our headboard. I would have loved to purchase a new headboard but just didn’t have the budget to spend an additional $300 – $600 on this makeover… So I decided to reupholster ours using an old curtain. Stay tuned for a blog post on that specific project, but here’s a sneak peek!

I removed the fabric.
I replaced the foam cushion.
I stapled an old curtain over the headboard.

And just like that, our bedroom got a total makeover and has SO much character now!

All of these pillows were from HomeGoods.
This lamp and box were from TJ Maxx.

Have you seen my Instagram reel on “fixing” this damaged knot decor piece?
This accent wall provides so much dimension!
I adore the design/texture of this lamp!
I love how this room just POPS now!

What do you think? Don’t forget to follow me on Instagram… I plan on posting a reel/video of this makeover soon!

Until next time,

Emily

  1. I’m so in love with that accent wall! Gives more dimension then a typical board and batten look. Also wondering where you got that storage bench? I absolutely adore it!
